I truly liked it, beautiful story, engaging implications, very well organised mystery and, at least for me, not that obvious and last but not least the characters are wonderful and charming.

Now, as always, I firstly read the last of the series and now, I'm definitely going through the others (probably not following the correct order), I most certainly love Celia and Jackson but I must say I found the rest of the principal characters quite interesting and catching too, especially the Sharpe family's males, see Gabriel (To wed a wild lord).

Celia Sharpe is the youngest of the Marquesses of Stoneville's five children, her parents are both dead several years before, in what is thought to be an homicide/suicide: the former marchioness would have murdered her faithless husband and then she would have killed herself.

Celia has a recurring recollection about that sad night twenty years earlier, when she was five: she was ill and sleepy because of the medicines and she casually eavesdropped a quarrel between her parents, shortly before their death. Celia hasn't never seriously thought about it, believing it was just a child dream or imagination and she keeps thinking that way until the Bow street runner Jackson Pinter, employed by her older brother Oliver (the present Marquess) to find out the truth about their parents' departure, discovers some important news about the incident. These discoveries make Celia believes that maybe that unforgettable dream is, in truth, real.

Mi è piaciuto, bella storia, risvolti accattivanti, mistero ben organizzato e, almeno per me, non così scontato e in ultimo ma certamente non meno importante, ottimi personaggi: coinvolgenti, distinti ed affascinanti.
Ora, io come di mio solito, ho letto prima l'ultimo della serie ed ora leggerò gli altri (anche se non so bene in che ordine ancora), certamente Celia mi è piaciuta molto e allo stesso modo, se non di più, Jackson, ma devo dire che ho trovato molto intriganti anche i restanti maschi della famiglia Sharpe, soprattutto Gabriel a cui è dedicato To wed a wild lord.

Celia Sharpe è la minore dei cinque figli dei Marchesi di Stoneville, entrambi morti molti anni prima a causa di quello che si pensa essere un omicidio/suicidio: la ora defunta marchesa, avrebbe ucciso suo marito fedifrago incallito per poi suicidarsi.
Celia ha un ricordo ricorrente del giorno della disgrazia avvenuta quasi vent'anni prima, quando aveva neanche cinque anni, in cui, ammalata a letto e sonnolenta per le medicine, origlia una particolare e sospetta discussione fra i suoi due genitori poco prima che morissero; Celia ha sempre dato poco peso alla reminiscenza, pensando che in realtà fosse solo un sogno o una fantasia e continua a pensarla così fin quando il Bow Street runners Jackson Pinter, assunto un anno prima dal suo fratello maggiore Oliver, ora Marchese di Stoneville, per indagare sulla morte dei genitori, scopre nuovi risvolti della vicenda che fanno credere a Celia che in realtà il ricordo, che spesso le torna alla memoria, potrebbe essere veramente accaduto e non solo l'immaginazione di una bambina.
