Guess what! I’ve loved this novel! What an unexpected statement from me towards Sabrina Jeffries.

I’m at the point where I’m convinced I won’t be able to find a plain romance written by her extremely talented hand.

I like her style, I like her characters and how real she pictures them, I like the chemistry the protagonists have, I like the plot…I even have a particular appreciation for the tense she uses for her romances titles! What else can I say which wouldn’t just confirm my previous amply stated idea regarding her works?

I adore Sabrina Jeffries, she's really good, her style is distinguishable and lively; her stories are not that predictable or ordinary (and considering the genre is definitely a good thing). The pirate lord, The forbidden lord and A lady never surrenders are splendid and this romance, the first of the Duke's Men series (which by the way looks rather promising), is as good as them.

Tristan and Lisette Bonnaud are the Viscount Rathmoor's illegitimate sons, born from the union with his mistress, the french actress Claudine; the Viscount has always loved his bastard children as much as the legitimate ones and is her mistress his true love.

After the Viscount's wife death (with whom he has two other sons: the heir and sly George and the good and kind Dominick), he tells Claudine that they will marry so that Tristan, Lisette and herself can be seen as respectable people. Unfortunately Rathmoor won't honour his promise, always finding excuses for his lack; when he finally dies because of a tragic accident, George, who deeply hates his step-brothers, has now the chance to ruin their lives: he banishes the three Bonnauds and accuses Tristan of horse theft; Dominick, who instead always loved his step-brothers, defends them and because of that the new Viscount banishes and disinherit him too, forcing him to leave his studies.

Sabrina Jefferies è un'altra autrice che sto adorando, è veramente molto brava, con uno stile ben definito e frizzante; le sue storie non sono troppo scontate, prevedibili o già viste e riviste (e considerando il genere direi proprio che è un enorme punto a suo favore). The pirate lord, The forbidden lord e A lady never surrenders sono splendidi e questo romanzo, il primo della serie Duke's Man (che peraltro promette molto bene), non è da meno!




Tristan e Lisette Bonnaud sono i figli illegittimi del Visconte Rathmoor avuti dall'attrice francese Claudine; il Visconte si è sempre dimostrato affezionato a loro tanto quanto ai figli legittimi ed è l'amante, la vera donna della sua vita. Dopo la morte della moglie (con la quale ha avuto, precedentemente, altri due figli: l'erede e perfido George e il buono e gentile Dominick), assicura a Claudine che l'avrebbe sposata così da rendere lei, Tristan e Lisette delle persone rispettabili. Purtroppo Rathmoor non ha mai mantenuto la promessa, prendendo tempo e adducendo scuse di vario e tipo; quando infine muore a causa di un tragico incidente, George, che odia profondamente i Bonnaud, ha finalmente la possibilità di rovinare la vita ai suoi due fratellastri e alla loro madre: li caccia di casa e accusa Tristan di furto; quando Dominick prende le loro difese, il nuovo visconte caccia anche lui e lo disereda senza troppe remore, costringendolo a lasciare gli studi e infrangendo tutti i suoi sogni per il futuro.
