I wonder why all heroines seem to smell of lemons? I think it is strange...what's this passion about lemons? I don't understand.

Original Title: Lord of Lies
Release Year: July 2017

Literary Genre: Historical Romance
Setting: England, Regency Era

The hero's job was a fantastic idea. It was definitely catching reading about his aliases, I was as charmed as the heroine when she spied him in the process of changing his costumes. Very sensual, too.

Author: Sara Portman
Original Title: The Offer

Finally a story where both protagonists, Bex, a distan indebited duke's cousin and Lucy a vicar's daughter, are penniless and not titled - I like also when they are rich and titled but for sure what is portrayed here is rarity in the genre, and therefore I'm happily surprised.

Literary Genre: Historical Romance

So, it is a bit difficult for me to give an opinion about this novel. Which is certainly not a new "affliction" for me when it comes to Valerie Bowman.

I can safely say that I liked it, and in some occasions, while I was reading, I thought that I was liking it very much...however, reached the end, I confirm that I "just" liked it. Why?

There is an historical romance that I love immensely, one of my favourite, and I read and read again all the time, and every time I do it, I adore it more. And this is a Lily Maxton's novel, The Improper Bride.
And so I waited, and waited, for another story from the author and now, habemus librum.

Review: The Bad Luck Bride (The Cavensham Heiresses) - ARC

Original Title: The Bad Luck Bride
Release Year: May 2017

Literary Genre: Historical Romance
Setting: England, Regency Era
Series: 1st of The Cavensham Heiresses

Let's start with a fact. I have a crave for stories where the hero does something he shouldn't to against the heroine and then tries his hardest to conquer her back. It's a strange fetichism, but here it is.
In Janna MacGregor's debut novel we have it. Yay!

I am not a big fan on insta-lust story. Yes, sure attraction is wanted, curiosity is wanted, but the idea that a man who sees me for the first time is immediately just thinking to strip me naked, would probably give me the creeps. Slow down man.

Adorable indeed.
I loved the novel, first of all because this type of storyline is probably my favourite (or anyway very high on the list), I have a weird fascination for historical gaming hells and especially the owners of them. It's Kleypas' "fault" I believe.

The novel is lovely. I liked the villain and all the secrets attached, it was very stimulating, well pictured and the introduction in the plot of whom I think might be the hero of the next story in the series (I can't wait!) was very entertaining.

I must admit it's difficult for me to accept that The Duke lacks the undoubtedly magnificence of the previous three.

I've stated numerously time that this is by far the best HR series written in the recent years (yes, there are others I love as much, but the Victorian Rebels has a depth that I've hardly found in others).
So let's be very clear here. THIS IS A GREAT ROMANCE. This cannot be contested as far as I'm concerned. But at this point I'm accustumed to, pretty much, perfection when it comes to Kerrigan Byrne...which means that everything even just a tad below that is very noticeable. However still very beautiful.

Review: Waiting for an Earl Like You (Masters of Seduction) - ARC

Author: Alexandra Hawinks
Original Title: Waiting for an Earl Like You
Release Year: January 2017

Literary Genre: Historical Romance
Setting: England, Victorian Era
Series: 3rd of Masters of Seduction

Let's start with a short preamble. Marriages in the middle of the plot are a big turn off for me. Very big. I don't like that two people who share developing feelings are pushed in a forced marriage. As far as I'm concerned, it weakens the romance. I prefer the proposal to be a untangled decision and not a imposition, also and especially if there are already some feelings between the protagonists.
That said, here there was an attenuating aspect, the hero and heroine had been "friends" since they were very young. That, on the other hand, I like.

I don't really have any specific complain in regards to this novel, I love Sabrina Jeffries' style, which I have said a billions of times.
Her writing is as always entertaining and catching and the characters are great, I liked Warren before and I confirm my opinion now. Delia is charming too, I like strong willed heroine so everything was in the right place here.

I know that my relationship with Valerie Bowman previously has been quite fluctuating and somewhat "stressing" but she's certainly convinced me with this novel.

Review: Hero in the Highlands (No Ordinary Hero) - ARC

Author: Suzanne Enoch
Original Title: Hero in the Highlands
Release Year: October 2016

Literary Genre: Historical Romance
Setting: Scotland and England, Regency Era
Series: 6th of No Ordinary Hero

This is a nice, lovely story. However, I have to admit that I was expecting more from it.
With this I mean that I truly like the plot, it is interesting and stimulating, the protagonists are theoretically great, the secondary characters are more than interesting (everybody here wants to know more about Kelgrove and the hero's sister...possibly in the same story, if you know what I mean).

Once again Sabrina Jeffries demonstrates her enormous talent. No news here! This is an adorable, extremely sweet and so touching "intermission" in the Sinful Suitors series (intermission that is very needed since we will have to wait till next March to read the second novel).

This series is fantastic, the first one was a marvellous surprise, which means that I had expectations for this one. Expectations that have been satisfied.
The author has that great, rare capacity to deeply engage the reader, I was very moved by some parts of the story.
